THANK HEAVENS FOR KIDS
By partnering with Mountain West Credit Union Association we were able to donate $5,000 to the Thank Heavens for Kids Program.
“The goal of a school districts nutrition services program is ultimately to break even after all revenues and expenses are accounted for, this is a very difficult task. In 2018 the USDA required any districts nutrition program operating under the National School Lunch Program guidelines to create and enforce an unpaid meal debt policy. Our districts policy entails steps for collecting unpaid meal debt and the districts number of meals it allows a student to charge before we offer/serve them the alternate meal of a cheese sandwich and milk (at no charge). The Thank Heaven for Kids (THFK) fund was created by former district employees with the goal to help and prevent students from having to take the alternate meal. When a student has reached their meal charge limit $12.50 for elementary and $15.00 for secondary and they don’t have money to purchase the days meals schools can use the THFK fund to pay for those meals to avoid the alternate meal. The THFK’s fund has been a huge blessing in our district ensuring students and parents receive help in difficult times with meal service. Each school is allotted a specific amount at the beginning of each school year and the district closely monitors the use of funds at each school and distributes more when necessary.” -Bryan Young, CCSD Nutrition Services Director
